Zoology

Overview: 

The PG Department of Zoology was established in the academic year 2017-18 with a student strength of 25. It has grown ever since with the aim of identifying one’s potential to become a centre for augmenting and contributing continuously to the vibrant field of Zoology. The department strives to create and provide an ambient learning atmosphere and prepare students for academia, industry and productive application of aquired knowledge in everyday life. 

 It strives to promote holistic development of students by inculcating a spirit of inquest, discipline and adventure through various academic and co-curricular activities. Apart from the syllabus, the department emphasizes on Value Addition Programs like Open electives which include selecting a subject other than the core subject to bring about a inter-disciplinary view point to learning. 

All the courses in the program are carefully designed to equip the students for competitive exams like CSIR NET, GATE, K-SET etc and hone their research abilities with project works guided by excellent faculty. Presently 5 dedicated and well qualified faculty members are working in the department, among them two of the faculty members are Ph.D., holders and others have UGC-CSIR NET/ KSET. All the faculty members are actively involved in research and academic activities.

Eligibility for admission

Candidates with Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Zoology as a Major / Optional subject or B.Sc Ed with CBZ (RIE Scheme) or Equivalent from any recognized University by UGC with an aggregate of minimum 55% (50% in case of SC/ST Category-1) or equivalent grade

Eligible Candidates need to submit the filled-in applications along with entrance exam marks to the College and also to the University of Mysore as per University Notifications.

  • Develop scientific outlook not only with respect to Zoology but also in  all aspects related to life.
  • Realize that interdisciplinary knowledge in other faculties can influence evolving new scientific theories and inventions greatly and effectively.
  • Imbibe ethical, moral and social values in personal and social life leading to highly cultured and civilized personality.
  • Realize that acquiring knowledge is a continuous process and in  combination  with untiring efforts and positive attitude and other necessary qualities leads towards a successful life.

Infrastructure Facilities

The department is equipped with ICT enabled classrooms and two well
equipped student laboratories with internet facilities. One of the laboratories is provided with overhead projector to enable the students to visualize virtual dissection software and online applications related to anatomy of animals, animal phylogeny and evolution, proteomic and genomic web tools. Department also houses a well furnished museum with a good collection  of  specimens to  cater the student needs.
